When I first landed in Italy, I met a lot of people, but my main friends were either from France or the USA. But we all got separated throughout Italy because we were all placed in different locations. So it gets a little lonely when you have to experience everything on your own when you know people who are going through the same thing. Yes, I have social media and can easily text people, but it's still lonely because you're basically starting your life from scratch. Luckily AFS Intercultura has a beginning of the year camp for students in each region. None of my American friends are in my region but I knew some other students from the first day I got to Italy. The camp is held around 3 weeks after you have gotten to Italy. You're still getting the hang of things but you've been there long enough to go to school and notice if most of the stereotypes are true. And I can say most of the stereotypes are true about Italy! Anyways, the three day experience was amazing. I met kids from all around the world going through the same things here in Italy. It was great to share our struggles and accomplishments. We even had a talent show to show our culture from our birth countries. Im glad AFS does this because its a break from the real world and we can be with people that have the same issues. A thing Intercultura did at the camp was they took our phones for around 6 hours. I was a bit hesitant because most of our goals were to get each other's social media accounts, but now that I am looking back on that I’m glad that they did this. It was better to talk to someone without a distraction of a screen. The people that I met at this camp have become true friends because we all took the time to get to know each other without distractions.
